Welcome to our web-site. Please take time
to look around.
St James'
(Burton-in-Kendal) and Holy Trinity (Holme) are a church family,
rather than church buildings. Our main gatherings are on a Sunday,
when there is usually a 9.30am service at Burton, an 11:00am service
at Holme, and a 6:30pm service at Burton. Please see the
Sunday page for details. Our services range
from the more formal Holy Communion to the informal all age family
gathering. But our main aim is always to teach the Bible and to
explain why Jesus is good news.
Our church family
has just over 160 members and we believe there is something for
everyone, whatever your age or situation. For example, we try to
make special provision for children and young people on Sundays,
with a creche, Sunday School and youth group; in addition to many
mid-week activities for people of all ages.
Our aim is to
love Jesus and make Him known.
Christianity is all about a person, Jesus Christ.
He is the unique Son of God who has made God known to the world so
we don't have to guess what God is like. He came to rescue a world
in rebellion against its Creator. He did this by dying on the cross,
taking the punishment for our sin so that we can be friends with
God. He rose from the dead, is alive today and is the supreme ruler
of the world, and the one to whom we are all ultimately accountable.
Today He brings forgiveness, new life and the knowledge of God to
all who trust in Him.
The explanation and evidence for all this is in
the Bible which we believe is God's authoritative word to the world.
We believe that a personal relationship with
Jesus Christ makes all the difference to life in the present and
life in the future after we die. Therefore we like to share our
faith in Jesus with others and seek to present this great news as
clearly and helpfully as possible.
This website will tell you more about us, and
help you to see what we stand for. Many people have questions about
the Christian faith, some of which we have tried to answer on the
Questions page. If you have
any questions on Christianity, or would like to further discuss
points raised in our answers, then we can be contacted by e-mail at
Webmaster.
Better still it would be great to see you at one of our Sunday
meetings.
We are an based in the
picturesque Cumbrian villages of Burton-in-Kendal and Holme, a
similar distance from both Kendal and Lancaster. We are close to the
M6 (junction 35 heading north on the M6, junction 36 heading south)
and both villages are a mile or so east of the A6.
You will find all sorts of people
in our church family, from all kinds of backgrounds and situations.
We extend a warm welcome to everyone.
